Every year, immense herds of zebra and wildebeest roam the Serengeti Park in North Tanzania, following an itinerary guided by the rains and the quest for green pastures. Like the mobile herds, the LABA Migration Camp is itinerant, following in the footsteps of the great migration, making three major stops each year to give guests a front-row seat from the most luxurious mobile camp in the Serengeti.

Following in the careful footsteps of historic pioneers who made it possible to share the unforgettable experience of an African safari with the creation of national parks and game reserves at the end of the 19th century, LABA LABA offers guests effortless luxury in the modern concept of ‘slow safari’ at the lesser discovered nature reserves of Tanzania and their exclusive island retreat. LABA LABA means butterfly in Yoruba, their role to increase biodiversity in the African landscape and fauna, treasured and safeguarded in each tailor-made safari experience.

ABOUT LABA Migration Camp

The new LABA Migration Camp is the most luxurious in the Serengeti. Far from being a temporary camp, it offers exceptional comforts, reflecting the image of its unfolding natural surroundings with a diverse range of activities to ensure guests take full advantage of having the rich African wilderness on their doorstep. The atmosphere is of authentic safari dating back to the end of the 19th century and the décor is based on the theme of ‘a cabinet of curiosities’, which is dedicated to nature. The intimate camp can accommodate up to 22 guests with 8 double and 2 family tents offering versatile arrangements, while two main tents open to nature serve as the lounge, library, bar and dining room. Pleasures of the palate unfold each day with LABA LABA signature dishes made with mainly organic ingredients and the added thrill of dining under the stars. Guests can enjoy workouts in the Technogym with open landscape views.

ABOUT Serengeti NATIONAL PARK

The Serengeti Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area provide a river and lake environment that is a magnet for the 1,600,000 wildebeest who take refuge in Kenya during the dry season. They return in long procession with the rains, in search of fresh grass. This annual migration is the park's most striking natural phenomenon and can be seen in different parts of the park depending on the season. The park is also home to the Big Five as well as hyena, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, birds of prey and many other species. This profusion of animals has generated ecotourism which Tanzania is carefully guarding through protection policies.

Activities & SAFARI EXPERIENCES

LABA Migration Camp offers a diverse range of activities to ensure guests take full advantage of being fully immersed in the rich African wilderness. A front seat to the great migration is the focus of the camp which is dismantled in six days, three times a year, to set down in the main migration zones where the animals are concentrated. From November to March, the Southern LABA Migration Camp is located in the southern Serengeti, not far from the Ngorongoro Crater. From April to July, the Western LABA Migration Camp is located in Masabi during the rutting season when the males are very active. From August to November, the Northern LABA Migration Camp is the best place to rub shoulders with the huge migrating herds, which can sometimes be in procession up to 30 km long.

Private land safari in 4x4 is with an experienced dedicated guide, while there’s wild animal footprints to follow on walking safari to get up close with the incredible wildlife in an untainted natural setting. Guests can fly over the Serengeti for a bird’s eye view, drifting on the breeze in a hot air balloon. Near the park, Olduvaï Gorge is one of Africa's most important prehistoric archaeological sites, where numerous fossils and human remains have been unearthed.

There is an authentically pioneering feel to the charm of the camp with each 62sqm tented suite and family tented suite offering exceptional space and comfort in 8 double/twin tents and 2 family tents, each with 2 connecting rooms via a covered corridor. Thoughtful touches of organic cotton bed linen and bathrobes, organic bathroom amenities and the indulgence of a freestanding copper bathtub bring a feeling of bush luxury.
